Making cruises greener

Few companies are as close to the environment as Avalon Waterways. So it’s only natural that we do all we can to respect and protect it. We take endless steps to minimise our impact on rivers and our modern fleet features the latest, low-carbon cruise ships. 

Energy efficient cruises

While ashore, all tours are conducted with low carbon coaches and our river cruise ships are fitted with state-of-the-art propulsion systems, engines and generators to decrease their carbon footprint. Whenever possible we also use more energy efficient land electricity.

Cleanliness and recycling

Our multi-step sewage treatment is so thorough it actually releases water that is cleaner than the river water itself. What’s more, no waste is ever allowed into the river and we only use the most environmentally friendly cleaning products.

Local sourcing

Whether it’s coaches, stationery, food or equipment for cruise ships, wherever possible we source locally to minimise transportation footprints and support local providers.
