Our Travels...Tania's Cruise

We are always looking at ways to improve our services to make you holiday extra special, which means we occasionally send staff on Avalon holidays to report back. Our Travel Specialist Tania went on a Paris to Normandy’s Landing Beaches river cruise and this is what she thought…

"With anxious trepidation and excitement I set off for a new Avalon adventure!   Paris to Normandy's Landing Beaches by Eurostar...

After an effortless and relaxing journey by Eurostar I joined the ship for my first experience of the five star luxury on board Avalon Creativity.  Spacious staterooms, with the infamous floor to ceiling sliding doors - arguably the best way to take in the sights and sounds of a gentle cruise down the Seine river.

The adventure started in Paris - a city famous for romance, which certainly did not disappoint.   Next onto cruise highlights such as the home of Jospehine and Napolean Bonepart - the Chateau Malmaison and a leisurely stroll around the beautiful town and gardens of Saint Germain.

The evening started with enchanted entertainment from a classical musical group called La Strada, and ended with a exceptional five course gala dinner with free flowing local wines.

Another gorgeous day and off we all went to visit the Giverny, which was Monet's garden - a place where many of the famous Monet's paintings were inspired by. This was by far my favourite day with the lovely smells of the flowers and the gorgeous colours, breathtaking.

Then it is onto Normandy and the landing beaches. The cruise director was very careful to ensure that all nationalities on board the ship had an opportunity to visit the beaches and the beautiful surrounding countryside.        The famous Pegasus bridge was a highlight of the trip and the local guides really brought the place to life with the vivid descriptions of the bravery of the Allied soliders during this crucial part of World War II.

With the trip nearly coming to an end a mention does have to be made of the wonderful food provided on board throughout and the attentiveness of the staff on board - really nothing is too much for them and our cruise director, Danielle was an absolute star.   A real journey to remember!"
