"Outstanding! Every aspect of the cruise exceeded our expectations"

"Standards have slipped since last year"

29/05/2017 - Trusted Customer

Housekeeping was good, food mediocre and not as good as our previous trip, dining room service average and seemed understaffed, mean/slow (not sure which) with wine. We felt abandoned during the hotel parts of the trip - tour manager available for only 2 hours a day in Czech republic and Hungary, where we didn't have any experience of the languages. We wanted cruise only, but were told on booking that this was not possible by UK booking office. However the USA brochure was put in our room during the trip and we found this option was available to Americans. Very annoyed.

Holiday was nothing special and a disappointment after our excellent cruise with Avalon last year.

" Booking & paperwork experience"

26/05/2017 - Trusted Customer

For some reason when we booked our holiday with Avalon, they had not entered details of our e-mail address on our booking (although we do distinctly remember being asked for it) & so consequently we didn't receive any information as only means of contact seems to be by e-mail not post. It was only when I finally managed to speak to someone, in February I think it was, that I was told our e-mail address was not on your records. We had to print everything off from the computer (shore excursions, baggage labels etc) whereas all the American, Canadian, Australian, N.Z. people we met on the trip, all had 'the blue book'.

Wonderful trip, good weather and the river levels allowed us to enjoy the whole trip on the boat.

Couldn't fault the staff service T all !

Though we couldn't dock in Nuremberg because of low water, excellent effort was made to lay on coaches to get us there from Regensburg and back.

We can't fault Avalon at all. Everything was perfectly arranged and the ship, the crew ,and guides were excellent. Akos was the perfect cruise director

The itinerary was excellent. Hotels in Budapest and Prague were very centrally placed, and high quality. The Avalon Expression was a well designed and well crewed ship. Everything was perfect!!

Our Cruise Director always had his finger on the pulse, so everything went smoothly. The booking process and everything that followed from pick-up to return were very well organized. We would use Avalon Waterways again.

All staff, crew, food, stateroom and ship were excellent. My wife is a very 'fussy' eater but the Head Chef Atilla and the Maitre D' Peter were always very concerned that she got things she could eat. She normally ends up with omelettes but on this cruise always had a choice of good food.Everything about the cruise was great and the Intercontinental Hotel in Budapest was very well situated and the cooked breakfasts were always hot. Our room was great. The Hilton Hotel was a bit of a walk from the Old Square and the main sights. The cooked breakfasts were a bit cold. That said, I had a health emergency late one night and the staff could not have been more helpful. Our room was great. The included city tour was a bit of a disaster because of the lengthy wait to get in to the Cathedral in the Castle in Prague, due to there being only one security staff to check all the bags (NOT AVALON'S FAULT).
