Welcome to Amsterdam! Holland's sophisticated, modern capital has a rich and fascinating history. This delightful 700-year-old city with its elegant and classic architecture, cafés, and restaurants has a distinct ambiance. The streets, squares, and canals—not to mention the bike paths throughout the city—make for a vibrant atmosphere, and with over 60 museums, Amsterdam has the highest museum density in the world. This afternoon, board your river cruise vessel and meet your crew at an evening welcome reception.
Included today: Canal cruise. There is no better way to see Amsterdam than by canal boat, cruising through the elegant grachten lined with stately homes dating back to Amsterdam’s “Golden Age.” There’s free time in the city this afternoon—you might like to join an optional excursion—and later, bid tot ziens (farewell) to Amsterdam
This morning, cruise through Rotterdam harbour and enjoy a leisurely morning on board before an afternoon excursion takes you to the gardens of Keukenhof near Lisse—over 70 acres of parkland with lakes, sculpture gardens, greenhouses, and a windmill to explore. Every year, 7 million flower bulbs are planted, and you have the chance to see the spectacular display of colours from the tulips, daffodils, crocuses, and more. If you're a garden enthusiast, you may opt for an extended stay in Keukenhof, going in the morning, and lunching in the gardens on your own before rejoining the ship with the rest of the guests in the later afternoon. After May 26, when the Keukenhof gardens are no longer open, a guided excursion takes you to the city of Delft. Most famous for its distinctive Delft blue pottery, the city with its historic town centre and canals was also home to the painter Johannes Vermeer. Join your local expert for a guided walk to see the City Hall, the Old Church, and hear the story of the "Delft Explosion."

"As usual the staff were extremely kind and helpful. Nothing was too much for them...."
As usual the staff were extremely kind and helpful. Nothing was too much for them. Happy smiling faces. The only missing this holiday was the crew's Cabaret evening.
All trips were well organised. Very knowledgeable local guides.THe local entertainment was exceptional.
Service was superb, from the Captain to the cabin boys/girls it could not be faulted, especially Ioana & Niki serving in the Restaurant. The cabin was as expected, a lovely comfortable bed and pillows, flat screen tv, plenty of storage, hairdryer, great shower and beautiful toiletries. Food was excellent, from breakfast through to the late night buffet, and the wines were interesting and good quality.
Great quality and service

"Good quality cruise"
Would have been five stars except for not being expected at the Amsterdam Schipol train station. We were transported with people arriving by air on late flights, but we were not on the list! What would have happened if they had already gone? Also confusion when being given envelopes for gratuities at the end of the cruise. Had to phone Avalon to clarify, as we thought, that they had been included in the cost of the holiday. Felt awkward when we mentioned it to the cruise director, who did say he was aware that UK customers did not need to use the envelopes. A comment, the train station at Amsterdam was not the nearest to where the ship was moored. There was a central station within half a mile. As we were told that our transfer from the station was not supposed to be included, that would have been a less expensive taxi fare.
