Day 2

Prague

  • Breakfast
  • Lunch
  • Dinner

Included today: Guided sightseeing, see the Astronomical Clock and visit Hradcany Castle grounds. Prague is a 1,200-year-old city preserved in time, and, unlike other central European capitals, it was not bombed during the 20th-century wars. A local guide will show you its best-known treasures, such as the Old Town’s Astronomical Clock, built in 1410 and once the envy of all of Europe; Hradcany Castle Grounds; St. Vitus Cathedral; and the Charles Bridge, the oldest bridge in Prague. Browse the shops for hand-cut crystal or art books and stroll through the Christmas markets. Rows of brightly decorated wooden huts sell Christmas tree ornaments, wooden toys, and Czech handicrafts. Get a little inner warmth with a cup of svarene vino (hot mulled wine) and a traditional hot sausage from one of the stalls. The beautifully decorated tree in the Old Town is an impressive sight.

Day 3

  • Breakfast
  • Lunch
  • Dinner

Enjoy a free day to explore at your own pace and visit the Christmas markets. Perhaps visit the Communist Museum, sample local plum dumplings and Pilsner, or stroll along the Vltava River. Your Cruise Director will have suggestions for things to do.

"Superb service, excellent side trips, well-worth while."

An aspect we had not appreciated was that the first three days of the cruise were along the Main-Danube canal, not the Danube. This meant no access to the top deck/sky platform, with attendant loss of views. The Prague stay was excellent. The cruise really should also allow for more time in Budapest, again a magnificent location.

First-rate shore visits and optional extras.

Everything happen as detailed, very hard working team

Excellent choice very happy with the itinerary and the crew and all the staff absolutely 1st class. The only unexpected downside was having to pay the hotel bellboys money to store the cases awaiting our airport transfer. Now looking at next year brochure to book again. Please thank everyone for an unforgettable holiday

"Best holiday for many years."

22nd August 2017 - Mr Michael Grout

From start to finish Avalon displayed attention to detail, nothing was too much trouble, the cabin was kept spotless, the food was wonderful and having included wine etc was very welcome. My first river cruise will not be my last. Thank you Avalon for a great holiday.

Fantastic value for money, especially as we booked late at a very good discount.

"Up with the best of our experience with seven river cruises."

21st August 2017 - Mr Malcolm Burgess

Good service, good food and good visits.

"Avalon Gone Down "

17th August 2017 - Mr Alexander Straney

Second Cruise and it was less organised then our first. Not very much went well, the people who worked for Avalon try very hard but it was not the experience I had hoped for.

Picked Up was 30 minutes late. Flight left late and had a 5 hour wait in Amsterdam which arrived in Prague at Midnight, 6 hours late with no one to meet us so needed to get a Taxi to the Hotel. The Andel was good but Avalon advertise the Hilton or the Intercontinental, so just a cheap money saving con. Guided Tours were very short compared to extra pay tours.

"The staff on board were very good but the cruise director was not as helpful. We..."

15th August 2017 - Mrs Diana Clue

The staff on board were very good but the cruise director was not as helpful. We had booked an hotel to extend our stay in Budapest only to receive an email that it had been cancelled day before we arrived. We asked the cruise director if he was able to book us at The Intercontinental at Avalon rates but we were advised it would be complicated and not able to help with this and th best thing to do would be to go online and book something else! We did find somewhere else to stay but it was the reception staff who helped to arrange for a taxi to the hotel. We felt somewhat abandon at the end of the trip.

Some excursions were value for money but not others.

"Efficient"

11th August 2017 - Trusted Customer

Everything went well except too many early starts and not enough time in Vienna and Budapest.

Too many early mornings and not enough time to finish dinner prior to evening excursions,i.e. to classical music concert we had to forego our desserts and coffee even though we sat down at 6.00pm and Budapest evening the trip had to be delayed for the same reason, our feelings were made known to the cruise director but he was not at all sympathetic.

Level of all services was 5 star, from the cleaning girls to the excursions?

As above! All excursions etc were first class!
