Magnificent Europe - Amsterdam to Budapest

From Amsterdam to Budapest, and many exciting stops along the way, you’ll be immersed in the culture of Central Europe in a unique way on this timeless river cruise holiday.

Amsterdam is Holland’s lively capital—both historical and modern. This popular city is set amongst sophisticated architecture and classic squares and canals. See the treasures of this 700-year-old city from a unique perspective—on a canal cruise along the elegant grachten. On to Germany where there’s a guided city walk in Cologne—a 2,000-year-old city known for its gothic architecture. Sail through the dramatic Rhine Gorge, the most beautiful stretch of the Rhine River, and stop in the charming wine town of Rüdesheim. There’s guided sightseeing in Würzburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg, and Regensburg, and you’ll sail the Main Danube Canal connecting the Main and Danube Rivers. First stop in Austria is Melk for a visit of its magnificent Benedictine Abbey, then sail through the picturesque Wachau Valley to Dürnstein—famous for its blue and white baroque Stiftskirche.

And in the last days of your holiday, local experts will introduce you to three capital cities: Vienna, Austria, also known as “The City of Music” for inspiring the creative genius of Mozart, Beethoven, and Strauss; Bratislava, Slovakia, where winding cobblestone streets twist and turn in the Old Town and you’ll visit St. Martin’s Cathedral; and lively Budapest, Hungary, with its unique energy and countless must-see sites. This truly is a river cruise to remember!

"We thought this was an ideal holiday for us as we are in our seventies."

30th October 2017 - Mr Stanley Trencher

Our daughter made a late booing for us about one month before the holiday and everything went according to plan except we had to follow up the chauffeur booking as we were told this had been cancelled. However it was quickly sorted out.

"Easy to book via web site - though some confusion around application of discount code..."

28th October 2017 - Trusted Customer

Easy to book via web site - though some confusion around application of discount code and inclusion of chauffeur services.

Excellent cabin on top deck - spacious, v comfortable bed and great to be able to open the full height windows. Good food - great choice and generally cooked well with nice choice of wines. Liked the options for regional dishes in the different countries/regions. Minor niggles - would have preferred to stay longer at each stop to be able to explore more fully, included tours worked well but a bit slow and slight emphasis on 'shopping'. Great service/crew. Toaster for breakfast was rubbish (one of those conveyor types that doesn't actually work).

"Consistently high standards of service and food, attentive and polite crew, well thought out itinerary..."

Cruise benefitted from an experienced and confident cruise director, Andrej, who was always on hand to answer queries and ensure every day went smoothly,

"Exceeded expectations"

Good cabin, good food, good service, well maintained boat, good itinerary

Well maintained boat, good service, good food, good staff, good itinerary and stops,

"Wonderful"

16th October 2017 - Mrs Rita Hollens

From the start of the holiday to the arrival home every aspect was exceptionally well thought out and organised. The quality of the ship was fantastic with exceptionally trained staff that made the stay so enjoyable. Food is always a criteria and on the Impression it was what you would expect in a first class restaurant exceptionally good. Every social evening entertainment met everyones taste with exceptional entertainment. Excursions included where again well organised with "own time" and added trips for those who wished for more. The important role of the Cruise Director was well filled with every piece of information to ensure that each passenger was fully informed of what to do and what to see in every location. All in all a wonderful special experience that we would love to do again and will certainly be sharing our experience of Avalon Cruises with our friends. Yours Rita Hollens

"Improved customer service would make this a perfect holiday."

2nd October 2017 - Mr Philip Bristow

Excellent holiday marred by the lack of customer service when having difficulties with return flights in am emergency. Appeared to be an abdication of responsibility and a lack of true 'customer care'.

The holiday itself was excellent. Could perhaps have been improved by the addition of DJ type recorded music to keep the party going at night.
