Onboard excellent, hotel beforehand let the start to the holiday down.First impressions are extremely important. The room set aside for us was in the basement, had no natural light and little comfortable sitting.

Well put together cruise, rejigging of the itinerary was done very well, the general strike in France on the first day did not cause too much disruption, but the itinerary changes were probably a good idea. cabins very good, food as good as we expected, boat very good.

"A very enjoyable break"

11th September 2017 - Mr Christopher Riley

The holiday was very well organized and well run. The staff were excellent and could not have been more helpful.

The Seine seemed relatively quiet and not overrun with River boats which meant there weren't too many tourists visiting the same places at the same time. A peaceful area with a turbulent history over many centuries.

8th September 2017 - Mrs Lynn Fraser

Our first river cruise and we were not disappointed. From the moment we boarded the ship the service from all was excellent. The organisation could not be faulted. The trips were also well thought through and extremely enjoyable. As a late booking we had unsociable flight times. The chauffeur service was also excellent. The only real downside was having a late evening flight home, we walked around Paris in the morning but after having a lunchtime meal we went back to the holding hotel where we just had to hang around in the corridor waiting to be collected for our transfer to the airport. We were able to have a coffee while the arriving passengers were waiting to be picked up but once they had gone the Avalon reps also left so we were totally on our own until the taxi came. But this did not spoil what was a very enjoyable holiday, we should have been on a river trip on the Douro a 45th wedding anniversary treat but two weeks before travel were told that we did not have a holiday as the travel agents had overbooked. We feel very lucky that we managed to find at the last minute what turned out to be a fantastic holiday. So Thank you very much.

optional tour to Montmartre was very interesting good to see Paris from a different perspective

"Nightmare journeys, could have been avoided. Great boat."

26th August 2017 - Mrs Frances Oneill

The boat and facilities were great and the staff were fantastic. I felt the extra cost for going to Honfleur was exorbitant and it could have been part of one of the other trips. The journeys both ways were a complete nightmare. We were picked up at 5.30am and when I had queried whether it was rather early I felt I was under threat that if we were late it would be my responsibility. As it happened we were at St Pancreas at 6.30am and we had three hours to wait for the train. This was unforgivable. The journey home was equally horrific. There were eight of us UK residents returning and we were put on a coach with a crowd of Americans who were visiting London. We were treated completely like second rate citizens in that the "host" looked after them the whole way and told us just to get on with it. We had a long way to walk with all our luggage and had no help whatsoever. When we arrived at St Pancreas it was difficult to find our driver and again we had a long way to walk. As I have mobility problems both journeys gave me great problems and I took a day to recover at both ends of the holiday. Had I been warned of the travel problems I would have travelled by air.

I already have. There is no need to say any more.

"Excellent cruise"

25th August 2017 - Mrs Kathryn Hindley

We had a very enjoyable week on the Seine. The ship was an older one (about to be 'retired') so the layout wasn't the best we've seen but it was very comfortable (great mattresses) and well maintained. The crew were all wonderful: the service we experienced was practically faultless. We found it excellent value, the food was superb and the drinks with meals plentiful. We really enjoyed all the (included) tours, particularly the Normandy landings, Monet's garden and the cycle ride in Paris. We had no idea the Seine was so beautiful and we enjoyed cruising through such pretty countryside during the daytime. The only area for improvement would be the Paris pre-embarkation arrangements: the hotel was pretty dreary and transfer to the ship was later (after 4pm) than we had experienced with other companies. But once on board we had an excellent cruise.
